These cards didn’t emerge from the noise of store shelves or the demands of this consuming seasons but from a quiet, deliberate act of paying attention. We started by asking: "Why are we still caught in cycles we know don’t serve us? nature week, climate week, economy week, (and on, and on, and on) they come and go, promising shifts and priming us for change, yet we return to the same patterns."

Behind the 5 cards: A process rooted in reflection.
The economy churns, demanding our energy and allegiance, while we scramble to prop it up the decaying parts with short-term fixes, never quite pausing to ask what truly nourishes us.
This process was about breaking some kind of rhythm thats usually hard to see, hiding in places you dont think ato look, it was about a shift in attention, letting the land, the skies, and the seas remind us what giving can mean.
It’s about doing “without”, about imagining differently, about noticing the humour, wisdom in the non-human world and all those lessons they pour into us everyday. These cards are an offering, yes, but also a call to reflect: how do we design meaning into what we give, not just looking at the cash value but the stories we share?
Welcome to the story of Pussy and Friends.

The Cards of 5: An Invitation to Laugh and Listen.
Picture this, a weary Pussycat, her eyes so red they seem to bleed, perched amidst the decorative chaos. She’s not angry, well, maybe a little... but mostly she’s tired of watching us pile up ribbons, glitter and bows in a desperate bid to fill an emptiness we don’t want to face. Her cry is sharp and clear: “Don’t gift just to gift.” What if we stopped spinning, she asks, and simply saw one another?
Then there’s the Marloo, the kangaroo, skipping lightly into the scene all dusty. She doesn’t bring a shiny package, only the pouch she’s always had. Her quiet message: What if sharing what’s already within us is enough?
The Wombat, though... he’s not so subtle. He’s the entrepreneur of the lot, waving his "product" around with a cheeky grin: “Buy my shit for Christmas!” It’s literal poo, of course, but also a nod to nature’s perfect methods recycling. Why spend so much when the land already knows how to sustain itself and us all?
And the Bowler bird, oh, the Bowler bird... he’s decked his halls with bits of rubbish, and day old discarded shining stuff, he shows us the kind of beauty that only comes from seeing the potential in what others discard. He’s not just creative, he’s asking us to rethink waste entirely.
Finally, the cards leave us with a landscape of wisdom to keep exploring: “Give back to country. It’s the reason for all seasons.” A reminder that no gift will ever match the abundance the land, the mother, and what she offers us in love and in gratitude... unasked... every single day.
The Story Awaits
These cards are tiny, illustrated windows into a larger story, one that might make you laugh, squirm, or even sigh with relief.
And here’s the thing: they might not arrive in time for Christmas, but isn’t that part of the point? We're doing slow production lines over here, let us know if you would like to preorder - email us at info@beckdesignstudios.com
You can however... share this story with your loved ones while you wait for the delivery, share a gallery experience in nature with them, take the art class together out there and carve out some space to think about gifting and what stories you will share.
Stay safe this rainy season
